If I have to do link building. What best ways are there besides writing good articles and paid listings?
I strive to only have quality links and stay away from free listings as they don’t count much. I have a few good quality links but feel I could do better. Any advice on this will be greatly appreciated.
Great question – lets break this question down into two parts.
Part 1: If I have to do link building. What best ways are their besides writing good articles and paid listings?
So, writing articles is a great way to distribute content about any company. Especially if they are published on trusted sources and user focused. One thing to mention is the ‘Google Panda‘ update, content farms have been affected so you really need to make sure that the quality of these sites are top draw.
In terms of paid listings, I can only assume these are such things as sponsored placements on other website or paid directory listings. In all of my time working in the SEO field, I have only ever purchased one type of link and that’s from the Yahoo Directory (http://dir.yahoo.com/). In terms of paid links, you run the risk of receiving a penalty from Google so do be careful with these.
Part 2: I strive to only have quality links and stay away from free listings as they don’t count much. I have a few good quality links but feel I could do better. Any advice on this will be greatly appreciated.
In terms of free listings, there are thousands of opportunities to get high quality backlinks so you must not avoid these. Also you’ve got to consider, if all of the links which are pointing back to your website are of a PR5 or above, would this look natural to Google? In my opinion, probably not! Having a diverse range of links from a diverse range of websites looks natural, or in other words more trusted.
In terms of finding free link opportunities, here are a few suggestions which I’d recommend:
- General business directories
- Niche business directories
- Local area business directories
- Business Forums
- Niche business forums
- Blog posting
- PR article websites
- Social bookmarking
- Social networking
- General link directories
- Guest blogging
- Link bait
- Video creation
