Previously, I’ve blogged about Google and Bing SEO techniques and from that, I was asked what are the core things that all of the search engines look for in terms of on-page methods.
Below are my top 5 on-page SEO tips for Google, Yahoo and Bing:
1. Well written content
Content, content, content – this is one of the most important parts of your SEO campaign. Well written and user focused content is a must. All of the search engines favour useful content.
2. Well written META elements
Well written META data which includes buzz and primary keywords is a must. All of the search engines use these as a ranking factor. To stay within the length limits, I’d advise 66 characters includes spaces for the META title and 120 – 160 characters including spaces for the META description.
3. Link to internal pages with relevant anchor text
For all of the search engines to find you content, sitemaps are a must but adding internal links to other pages within the site can also aid the process. One thing to remember is to keep your internal linking structure consistent.
4. ALT and title tags
Yahoo and Bing focus highly on content (a lot like Google) and keyword placement can be crucial. Add short 5 word descriptions to images and add title tags on links.
Something I talk about a lot are sitemaps, these can be your best friend in terms of telling the search engines about all of your websites content. As a standard I would recommend an XML sitemap.
