Adding ‘nofollow’ on internal links – good or bad?

I was recently asked – is it a good idea to add rel=”nofollow” on internal links? You would think this would be OK but there are a few things to consider first.

So what is rel=”nofollow”

Wikipedia defines nofollow as the following:

nofollow is a value that can be assigned to the rel attribute of an HTML a element to instruct some search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index. It is intended to reduce the effectiveness of certain types of search engine spam, thereby improving the quality of search engine results and preventing spamdexing from occurring.

Since SEO began, META tags have always played an important part. More recently, Google has dropped the META Keywords tag as an SEO signal which Bing/Yahoo still slightly favours.

META Keywords: Are they still important for SEO?

META keywords, SEO, does Google still use it, how many keywords should I include… so many questions around this tag; so let’s solve it once and for all.

So what is it?

Wikipedia defines the tag as follows:

The keywords attribute was popularized by search engines such as Infoseek and AltaVista in 1995, and its popularity quickly grew until it became one of the most commonly used meta elements. You can read more here.


Hyphens in URLs: Good or bad for SEO?

A long standing debate is whether or not hypens in domains are a good thing or a bad thing.

Below is an example of two alternatives:
