Google has long been a champion of website speed and performance – and they are step changing the web with the introduction of Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP).

Finally! Google have confirmed that mobile sites will benefit within search results.
SEOs have known for some time that mobile friendliness is a ranking signal (Google Caffeine really was the start of this from a speed perspective) and its great to see it being confirmed by Google.
Following on from my free and very popular SEO friendly website template I created last year (which can be found here). I’ve decided to revisit this again and do an updated version.
Like version 1, version 2 consists of the following with newer features:
- About page
- Services page
- Testimonials page
- Portfolio page
- News page
- Contact page
- Images folder
- External cascading style sheet
- Social icons for easy integration
- New colour scheme
- Drop shadow integration
Another great SEO question around site structure:
“I’m currently redesigning my website – the old structure of the website was www.domain.co.uk/product/index.html. The new files are basically the same, but index.php. Am I best having them top level rather than in a subfolder? So www.domain.co.uk/product.php? Will it make a difference?
On a similar note, I’ve seen sites where extensions aren’t used/visible at all – is this done with code in an .htaccess and is it of benefit too?”
I was recently asked which are my favourite CMS’s and work well from an SEO point of view?
Using a content management system can be a stress free experience and an easy way to keep a website fresh and updated, but, choosing a CMS to fit your long terms goals can be a challenge.
With many open source CMS’s, which do you choose? Personally, a big factor for me is the communities behind the platforms, extensions, plugins, future developments and of course, how SEO friendly it is.
This weeks question is “Do footer links still help with SEO?”
What are footer links?
Footer links are typically a collection of internal or external links at the end of a web page.
These can consist of general information about the company, products, categories, sitemaps, legal information and more.
